BUILDING FOR PEOPLE, PERFORMANCE, AND THE PLANET

We can't save the planet on our own. But we can lead the charge to create a sustainable future by building beautiful, thoughtfully designed high-performance homes that help our clients live better. Through constant innovation, we strive to elevate the standard of how building companies can serve their communities.

We cultivate an environment that offers our team members continuous learning, opportunity, and support. This allows them to flourish in both their personal and professional lives, which in turn fosters the continued health and growth of Adams + Beasley.

Why a high-performance home might be right for you:

People

Enjoy the benefits of healthy indoor air quality, comfortable climate control, and a more serene living environment with reduced noise pollution and ample natural light. High-performance homes are proven to help overall well-being, making them a health-conscious choice for modern living.

Planet

High-performance homes curb carbon emissions by using eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient design. With a focus on landscapes that feature native species, these homes also utilize water runoff and rainwater to minimize waste. These benefits contribute to a greener, more environmentally conscious living experience.

Performance

These homes are designed to withstand rising energy costs through the use of innovative insulations, efficient climate control features, and state-of-the-art appliances. The use of durable, high-quality building materials and thoughtful construction practices help minimize the costs of replacement and long-term maintenance. Some high-performance homes are also built to produce more energy than they use, saving you money over time and speeding up your return on investment.

EVERY TYPE OF HOME CAN GET READY FOR THE FUTURE

It’s a common misconception that a house must be new to be high-performance. Through our partnerships and processes we have the expertise to prepare the home you love to thrive into the future.

 EXPERTS ON THE CUTTING EDGE

We believe high-performance home-building is the future. In addition to staying on top of evolving building codes, we provide the experience and training to help our people acquire expertise. Over 28 members of our team have worked on a high-performance build, and we have three Phius-certified employees, with more on track to receive that designation. These efforts are spearheaded by our in-house expert, Keith Lewis.

MEET KEITH

A pioneer in the high-performance building space and a valuable asset to this team, Keith is a lifelong industrial artist who’s worked in carpentry and the construction industry for over 26 years. He is a Phius-certified builder as well as a LEED associate, and focuses on sustainable projects throughout New England. He is part of the MIT Professional Education Chief Sustainability Officer Program and participates in exchanging perspectives with world-renowned MIT thought leaders, industry experts, and senior executives from around the globe. With the goal of making sustainable construction the status quo across the industry, Keith also sits on the Board of Directors of
Studio for High-Performance Design & Construction as the Vice President. This center provides training and education in High-Performance, Net Zero, and Passive House design and construction. Keith’s passion, knowledge, and willingness to educate and lead add immeasurable value to our team.

A RANGE OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE OPTIONS

HIGH-PERFORMANCE RENOVATION

Historic or modern, any home renovation can benefit from high-performance upgrades

CUSTOM NET-ZERO HOMES

Elegantly designed and custom-built to achieve net-zero energy performance

PHIUS-CERTIFIED HOMES

Highly efficient homes designed to achieve strict (PHIUS+ 2018) performance standards

We can execute across a spectrum, from start-to-finish renovations, to ground-up custom builds, to minimal and thoughtful upgrades.

KEY BENCHMARKS TO LOOK FOR WITH HIGH-PERFORMANCE HOMES

HOME ENERGY RATING SYSTEM (HERS)

The HERS index is a measure of a home's energy efficiency, with 100 representing a typical home. A lower HERS score represents better than typical efficiency. A HERS score of 0 indicates net-zero performance (i.e. 100% more efficient than a typical house) and a negative HERS score represents a
net-positive home - producing more energy than it consumes.

AIR CHANGES AN HOUR (ACH50)

A blower door test measures the amount of air leakage per hour from a home, detecting whether or not the house is properly sealed.

ENERGY USE INTENSITY (EUI)

Energy Use Intensity (EUI) measures a building’s energy efficiency based on its size. It is calculated over the length of a year by dividing the total energy consumed by the total floor area of the space, and is measured as kBtu/sf/yr (energy per square foot per year).

CARBON CONSCIOUSNESS

High-performance homes minimize their carbon footprint in two ways. First, they significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions through a robust building envelope and energy efficient systems, lighting, and appliances. They also reduce embodied carbon through the thoughtful selection of low-carbon materials.

MINDFUL WASTE MANAGEMENT

A closely managed waste stream from the construction site diverts materials from landfills, either to be recycled or incinerated for energy creation.
