The owners of an 1888 shingle style home in the heart of Tory Row Cambridge fully renovated their home to be historically accurate and perfectly curated. The next step was to create a completely finished basement, adding almost 2000 sf of finished space. This was accomplished by increasing the height of the basement ceiling via digging down, reorienting the existing staircase, and creating a new family room with loads of built-in storage, new exercise and playroom spaces, and new laundry, bathroom, and wet bar. Banks of windows were created as well in order to let in natural light. The moniker of a ‘basement remodel’ really doesn’t do it justice.
