This large-scale project in Gloucester has been years in the making. After acquiring the stunning seaside estate nine years ago, the owners embarked on an extensive search for the perfect builder and architect. We are deeply honored that they selected A+B to bring their vision to life, handling both the design and construction.

KEEPING THE CHARACTER INSIDE, HIGH-PERFORMANCE ON THE OUTSIDE / TIMELESS CHARACTER, MODERN PERFORMANCE
This project masterfully merges the charm of repurposed materials with cutting-edge efficiency. By preserving the existing framing and foundation while introducing thoughtful additions, the team is reimagining the home’s ‘blocky’ structure into something fluid and harmonious.
At its core, this is a high-performance home: 90% electric, powered by solar panels with battery backup, and wrapped in deep-insulation wall pockets. Even the garage skylight incorporates commercial-grade materials that allow light to flow in without compromising energy efficiency, ensuring the home retains its exceptional HERS rating.

A new addition elegantly bridges the main home and the multi-level garage, which houses a reading room, library, gym, guest suite, and car storage. The new entry and primary suite act as a graceful link between the biblio and the house. This single-story addition includes a dining room, a spacious roof deck, and a rooftop garden.
Replacing the minimal glass and cinder block breezeway, the design creates a striking connection between the home and garage. Once complete, the addition will appear as a seamless, harmonious extension, blending the formerly separate structures into one cohesive property.
Salvaged millwork and architectural elements infuse the fresh design with a sense of history, seamlessly blending old and new. Our team collaborated with a Boston salvage company to source unique pieces to feature prominently in the dining room and living room.
