The 150-year-old Italianate mansion was in the perfect Cambridge location but needed more work than the retiring homeowners were willing to take on and, further, had become more house than they wanted to care for. Their solution: sell off the house as a condo and have an architect design a tasteful and sympathetic addition off the walk-out basement to create a single-level, two-bedroom unit that would allow the couple to age in their desired place.
